The Stark County Jail is located at 4500 Atlantic Blvd N.E., Canton, Ohio 44705. It runs around the clock and handles bookings for every law enforcement agency in the county. The jail has an operational capacity of 526 inmates housed at various security levels. From November 2017 through November 2018, the facility booked 9,848 people, split between 7,332 males and 2,516 females. The average stay was 17 days.
At booking, officers fingerprint and photograph each inmate for identification and criminal history checks. They classify every person for violence risk and vulnerability before assigning housing. The SecurPass Body Scanner is used for contraband detection at intake. Each inmate showers, gets jail clothing, a hygiene kit, bedding, and a copy of the jail rules before going to a housing unit. Prisoners in the Stark County Jail include people charged with everything from traffic offenses to capital crimes. Some are awaiting trial. Video visitation expanded in 2016 to include off-site visits. Family and friends can visit from home using any internet device through ICSolutions.com. Off-site visits run Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM with no weekly limit. On-site visits are limited to one per week. Phone service is also through ICSolutions with a 15-minute maximum when others are waiting. All outgoing calls are collect or use pre-paid cards from commissary. No incoming calls are allowed.
Mail goes to the facility through TextBehind, which photocopies all physical mail. Electronic letters can be sent through the TextBehind.com website or app by 11:00 AM Monday through Friday for same-day delivery after staff review.
